Healing comes in all forms. Art is one of them. For me, I need to be surrounded by, visit and even create my own. When I’m around art, whether it be visual or performance, it gives me life. I remember taking Chinese brush painting classes where I had learned about patience and focus. Spending hours on creating single dots on thin and fragile paper was a test and I was determined to get things right. The art form, in all its beauty, also taught me a life lesson of knowing when less is more. To understand that beauty in life needs not to be elaborate or embellished — and how just one stroke more could potentially and easily shift things off balance. Chinese brush painting is poetic in motion. The medium is very powerful. It’s not like oils where you can manipulate and blend. It’s not like acrylics where if you don’t like what you create, you have a second chance. The ink to paper in simple, yet precise strokes, is a flow that I still enjoy releasing. But I’m just only beginning to learn about the therapeutic benefits of the art form and it’s been well over 15 years.
When I recently discovered a book by Master Zhi Gang Sha it brought back those grounding feelings and caught my attention. Master Sha is an MD, as well as a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine. He combines the essence of Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine with ancient energy and spiritual secrets from China.
He’s also received many accolades including the Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Commission Award for promoting world peace. He is also a New York Times Best Selling author with over 25 titles that have hit the worthy reading lists many times over. THE TAO CALLIGRAPHY HEALING FIELD is his newest publication that taps into the positivity and healing art of Tao Calligraphy.
Based on the ancient art of Yi Bi Zi calligraphy, Master Sha brings the information, energy and matter to those who are seeking new heights in spirituality, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Letting go of what is blocking us from being happy, healthy and more successful. Fascinating? Indeed. You can read more about him here.
Master Sha has opened 10 Tao Calligraphy Healing Field Locations around the world including here in Toronto. The centres offer a variety of classes, workshops and special events, as well as Sacred Blessings, Soul Guidance and other special services by phone or in-person.
According to his site, Everything comes from Tao and everything returns to Tao. Tao Oneness carries pure positive information, energy, and matter, while everything in the yin yang world (Heaven, Mother Earth, humanity, and all souls) carries various amounts of positive and negative information, energy, and matter.
We wanted to learn more…
When did you first experience the healing effects of calligraphy?
Master Sha: Calligraphy is one of the most revered arts in Chinese culture, and, for many, it is a spiritual practice. As a child in China, I was taught the importance of writing Chinese characters and phrases with balance and harmony. In hindsight, this itself was healing. But I really felt the healing power when I experienced Yi Bi Zi, “one-stroke word” calligraphy, from Professor Li Qiu Yun, who was the sole lineage holder of Tai Shi (“Supreme Teacher”), the teacher in the royal court of the last emperor of China. Instead of writing with the traditional numerous separate strokes, this one-stroke writing embodies Oneness, which is the highest healing. In traditional Chinese medicine, everything is characterized by yin and yang, complementary but opposing forces, and healing is to balance yin and yang. I was so honored to learn this Oneness writing from Professor Li before she passed away at over 100 years of age, and one of my major missions is to carry on her lineage. Her wisdom, knowledge, and guidance inspired me to create Tao Calligraphy to uplift and help humanity align soul, heart, mind, and body as one. I am dedicated to spreading this healing art.
What has been one of the most moving experiences you’ve encountered?
Master Sha: I have always been moved by the many ways in which human beings suffer. I have been deeply moved by the wisdom, knowledge, discipline, and perseverance of the many great teachers I am blessed to have had. One of the most moving experiences, though, is one of my earliest. My father was a manager of a coal mining company. Whenever there was some emergency, such as miners trapped far underground, my father would always jump in to be at the forefront of the rescue team, even though others told him not to do that as a manager. My father’s selflessness, courage, and love and care for his workers have been great lessons for my whole life. I have tried to follow his example and have had so many heart-touching experiences of seeing people with little hope find help to recover from physical suffering, serious illnesses, longstanding emotional difficulties, and more.
What makes this type of healing different from others?
Master Sha: Ancient wisdom teaches that everyone and everything is made of shen qi jing. Jing is matter. Qi is energy. Shen includes soul, heart (the core of life), and mind (consciousness). Tao Calligraphy healing works directly on shen, which I teach is information or message in scientific terms. Our soul is the warehouse of information or messages. We need healing whenever we carry negative information or messages in any part of our being (physical, emotional, mental) or life (relationships, finances, business). Tao Calligraphy brings positive messages from Tao Source. These messages have a high frequency and vibration of Source love, forgiveness, compassion, and light. Their positivity can transform the negativity that is at the root of our challenges.
Heal the soul first; then, healing of the mind and body will follow. ~ Master Sha
In today’s world and with what is happening with this pandemic, what advice do you have for us today and then for the future?
Master Sha: Whatever your current circumstances during the pandemic, see them as opportunities for healing and transformation. If you have physical health challenges or are dealing with unbalanced emotions such as anxiety, worry, depression, or fear, learn and apply some self-healing techniques. If you’re spending more time with your children or partner, use these techniques to deepen your love and to create more peace and harmony. Make these behaviors and practices part of your daily life now and keep them as part of your daily life when life returns to “normal.”
What’s in your daily practice?
Master Sha: I practice with various Tao Calligraphies that I have written to maintain good health and energy, prevent sickness, and rejuvenate. I also meditate and communicate with Tao Source and my spiritual fathers and mothers in the spiritual realm. They have amazing wisdom and guidance beyond our human comprehension and imagination.
Tell us about your latest book. And do we need to read your previous books first?
Master Sha: No, not at all! Each of my books can stand alone. However, my latest book, Tao Calligraphy Healing Field: An Information System with Six Sacred Techniques to Empower You to Heal and Transform Your Life (an Amazon bestseller), would be a perfect first book because it summarizes the essence of the wisdom I have received in my whole life’s study and includes new sacred and secret practices that could help readers heal and transform challenges in health, emotions, relationships, finances, and any aspect of life in a quicker and more powerful way. I emphasize that making a personal effort to do the practices is absolutely vital.
For those who are skeptical, what would you want them to know?
Master Sha: If you want to know if a pear is sweet, taste it. If you want to know if Tao Calligraphy can heal and transform your life, experience it. Give it a try! People take medications and see counselors and therapists for weeks, months, and years. I honor all of them. Tao Calligraphy and the other practices I teach are compatible with all other healing modalities. But I suggest that you do the practices I teach consistently and persistently. Some people may receive significant benefits quickly. For others, it may take longer. But if you don’t do the practices, you won’t be able to receive any benefits! These practices have helped millions of people, including those with chronic pain and life-threatening illnesses. They can help you too.
