Check in: Westin Harbour Castle for Wellness Now

There’s something almost instinctive about our connection to water. The gentle movement, the rhythmic sound of the waves, are invitations for us to pause and exhale. Water is never completely still, yet there is something incredibly calming about its natural flow—a reminder that we don’t always have to rush through life and we don’t have to go very far. A recent stay at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto, perched at the water’s edge, became an unexpected sanctuary—and the perfect setting for my latest wellness break.

For me, being near the water creates a natural space for reflection and meditation. It encourages me to slow down, be present, and reconnect with myself and with those I love to spend time with. In a busy city like Toronto, we’re incredibly fortunate to have such a beautiful and evolving waterfront right on our doorstep.

Quiet Luxury at the Waterfront

The Westin Harbour Castle hotel sits at the foot of Yonge Street. It has been a solid fixture in the city for as long as I can remember. Its location is part of its story offering the convenience to be right at Toronto’s harbour while having access to most of where you want to be in the city’s core. But what if you’re someone who values their downtime as much as the go-time?

I had always thought of this hotel as one for those coming in for conferences, concerts and sporting events. But a stay infused with wellness offerings? I was surprised to discover this here.

I checked into the hotel’s recently renovated Luxury Suites well above the busy street on the 35th floor with views of the Lake Ontario. Yes, the lobby was buzzing as RUSH was in town for their epic sold out concerts and whatever else was happening in Toronto. But as soon as I stepped off the elevator, I quickly forgot about the buzzy lobby I had walked through mere seconds ago.

Wellness in Every Stay

I had recently learned that the Westin Harbour Castle has made wellness a priority in every stay, with thoughtful details designed to help guests feel a little more rested and restored. And if you’re the type of traveller who believes the stay is just as important as the destination, this is definitely worth exploring. Whatever brings you to the city, there’s something lovely about returning to a space where you can slow down, rest and recharge.

If you’re not quite sure how to unwind or bring a little more wellness into your stay, Westin offers some thoughtful tips for guests. You’ll find them tucked into a booklet in the suite, with simple suggestions to help you make the most of your time there.

Westin’s Sleep Well program was created with a more restful stay in mind — especially when you need it most. From the soothing aesthetic to the little touches throughout the room, the experience goes beyond what you might typically expect from a hotel stay.

Suddenly, I found myself tuning into the details. The grounding colour palette. The minimal, uncluttered aesthetic. The soft edges of the tables. The freshness in the air. Even the brushstrokes in the artwork on the wall caught my attention.

But it was the quiet that surprised me most.

I often don’t even realize just how much noise I’m surrounded by every day until I find myself in a softer, quieter space. And in that moment, I realized just how much I needed it.

That Heavenly Bed

If you’re already familiar with Westin properties, you probably know about the Westin Heavenly Bed and its much-loved reputation for a restorative, supported sleep. I learned that the bed was designed using sleep science research along with guest feedback, with layers of thoughtful details working together to create that cozy, sink-in-and-stay-awhile feeling.

There’s a deeply tufted top layer, breathable materials and cooling features, along with pocket coils and motion isolation — all designed to help create a more comfortable and restful night’s sleep.

Even the linens have been thoughtfully considered. The moisture-wicking, cool-to-the-touch Tencel Lyocell sheets are made from fast-growing eucalyptus trees, while the 100% ring-spun cotton is manufactured with water conservation in mind.

And for those dreamy, just-before-sleep moments, Westin provides a subtle Lavender Balm to enjoy as you wind down. There’s also an app with a menu of options to further personalize your stay, including the ability to pre-select your pillow preference before you even arrive.

Because sometimes wellness really is about the little things — and getting a good night’s sleep might just be one of the best places to start.

Rejuvenate from Head to Toe at the Damara Spa

Damara Spa is located on the property offering guest favourites from massage therapy to world class facials to expert nail services. I opted for their luxurious Scalp Massage – a beautiful service that nourishes the scalp and hair. Highly recommend! This spa, with origins in Yorkville, has been a Toronto gem for years.

Their facial menu offers something for every skin type. They offer a wide variety of spa facial treatments including medical grade options with expert advice from their staff. The G.M. Collins “Sea to C” Facial caught my attention that helped brighten my skin and improve elasticity with its powerfully anti-aging results. The site offers details should you wish to explore more.

Nourishment Found On The Menus

We know travel can take its toll on our diets and can derail us for a few days. After all, Toronto IS known as a mega foodie destination. No judgement. But for those moments that you want balance, you won’t have to look far for more nourishing meal options…even at the hotel’s breakfast buffet!

Wander For The Soul

The Westin Harbour Castle is situated at the foot of Toronto’s harbour and Ferry Terminal. Having stayed over the weekend and through Monday it was an idyllic time to revisit the Toronto Islands. Taking the scenic ferry ride was very easy. Head over to Ward’s Island and stay on the paths that meanders through the island without disturbing local residents – yes, people live there. Make a stop at the whimsical pink coffee van and café. Grab a local map that offers a quick history of the islands. Head to the most southern point of the island where you can follow the serene boardwalk along the shore.

I brought along a sketch book and doodled away for a few hours undisturbed and away from the city’s busy-ness. I watched the Canadian geese fly by and butterflies came to say hello. I admired the sun glistening on the rippling water and watched nature move around me.

Another nearby park to wander and discover is the new Biidaasige Park (pronounced bee-daw-si-geh) at the foot of Cherry Street. It has so much to offer as it continues to expand its offerings. Explore Indigenous plantings that reflect the native ecology and ecosystem as well as cultural and medicinal significance for Indigenous communities. Discover public art installations. Walk the Water’s Edge Promenade and take in spectacular views of the city’s skyline. Take local TTC bus transit, rent one of the city’s bikes, or take a water taxi.

Toronto's Wards Island

Harbourfront Centre is a hub of activity anytime of the year. Enjoy free music and cultural festivals. See what’s on exhibit at The Power Plant contemporary art gallery (free admission). Check out local artists and their studios. Wander a few more steps west to see who’s performing at the Toronto Music Garden.

Also within walking distance is The Second City. There’s always something fun and creative happening there. One of these days I’ll pop in for a improv workshop.

If you want to spend time wandering the quaint area of Distillery District you’ll discover local artists, cafés, restaurants, and other unique shops. There’s also Soulpepper Theatre that’s worth checking out for more intimate theatre productions.

Two days at the Westin Harbour Castle as a place to reconnect with myself to do everything… or nothing at all was a gift of time. It was just what I needed especially knowing that a busy fall and winter was just around the corner.
