Hockley Valley is just a stone’s throw from the city, making it an ideal spot for a snowy weekend stay. Home to restaurants, a full-service spa, gym, and of course, fully groomed slopes and lifts to tease you out of your slippers, Hockley Valley uniquely also is home to Adamo, an award-winning winery located just adjacent to the sprawling property.
Culinary Arts
Offering a true staycation all in one stop means the food program is a priority, and Chef Iniyan Vijay goes to great lengths to ensure that all the dining options at Hockley Valley, from the three in-house restaurants to the nearby sister-property Adamo Estate Winery are destination-worthy in their own right. Four acres of surrounding area provide vegetables and herbs for the restaurant, and grapes for Winemaker Shauna White (stay tuned for a full interview!) who manages the vintages for the estate, with several titles garnering some serious accolades for her efforts.
Mario Adamo, who opened the winery in 2015 originally hailed from Calabria, Italy and was reminded of the rolling hills from back home. Convinced this pristine pocket of Ontario could produce the right grapes, Mario got to work, and built something pretty majestic right in our own backyard. Winemaker’s dinners are a popular draw for locals, and a major pull for city-dwellers looking for a respite from your usual 416-offerings.
Suite Apres-Ski
Situated in the rolling hills near Caledon, Hockley Valley is home to 3 lifts and 10 runs (open so far this season), making it a perfect place to get your legs back for the season. Advanced skiers will be drawn to the black and double-black diamond thrills, while novice skiers can stick to the green, blue or bunny hills. In summer months, hiking, cycling and golf are a main attraction, as is the sunny outdoor pool.
Guest rooms are well-appointed with modern furnishings, offering several guest bed configurations. Cushy pillow top mattresses offer a sumptuous deep sleep, and bathrooms feature every amenity you could want for. Rooms boast balconies to soak up all that fresh country air, or cheer on skiers making their pilgrimage back to the resort.
With many package deals offering ski and stay (or spa and play) packages, Hockley Valley is a great Ontario getaway, and only forty-five minutes north of Toronto. If you’re looking for a long weekend romp with the girlfriends, your partner or maybe just by yourself, being able to relax and unwind in under an hour makes this a popular pick for the truly time-compressed, and isn’t that just about everyone these days?
While Hockley Valley generously offered the guest room, all opinions are my own. Stay tuned for more, we have a full interview with the innovative Shauna White, winemaker for Adamo Estate Winery.
