By all accounts, 2018 was a dumpster fire of a year. Between van attacks, pedestrians and cyclists becoming human speed bumps, a serial killer in the village, mass murders on the Danforth and of course the countless gun violence incidents, I’m sorta struggling to find reasons to celebrate. And that’s just in my backyard. The world needs some empathy, it’s a time to heal and hopefully reveal a 2019 brimming with possibility and love, acceptance and opportunities, for everyone.
This year, instead of turtling into a corner and assuming the fetal position until the bells chime and midnight, I’ve decided to toast with some near and dears, at home. It’s what works for me, while my kids still tolerate me anyways.
But dear readers, you deserve better than the fetal position. So I’ve put my best party pants and sourced some more sophisticated options…

Momofuku’s Kōjin is equally new and shiny, after a renovation that saw them just only recently reopen. See the fireworks from Canoe, the 54th floor of the TD Tower. The views are only second to the stunning plates, one of the very best Toronto has to offer.

Our buds at Track & Field are always throwing the best events, if you’re curious about their creative parties than tonight is your best time to check them out. A very specific theme means costumes, clever cocktails and of course, amazing music to match the mood. This year’s NYE is dubbed Threat Level Midnight: The Office. Yes, that office. Dunder Mifflin fans of all forms will be lining up for this one.

But if you’re into the staying at home thing, I salute you. Here’s some tips we gathered about best practices for best bubbles. Don’t chill champagne for too long! For optimal taste, a champagne like Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte Brut Réserve is perfect to be served once you let it chill in an ice bucket for about 30 minutes instead of storing your bubbly in the fridge before drinking.

And for the next morning, hangover cures run the gamut but burgers are usually excellent contenders. Wahlburgers in SoHo Metropolitan Hotel will be serving up breakfast burgers and the tots you crave, and will carry forward this morning menu resolution throughout the new year. Plenty of non-burger breakfast offerings are also on deck, like Mark’s Scramble which may have you reliving some of those good vibrations from the night before.
