The 12-room motel is situated just down the street from its sibling property, The Beach Motel. Hometown hoteliers Dane and Samantha Buttenaar have once again restored a prime property and, in doing so, have provided guests with another stylish option for extended stays.

While The Beach Motel has an elegant, sophisticated feel, its little sister, South Beach Motel, has a playful and adventurous side. Here, the motel eschews the typical concierge and lobby space for a courtyard sandbox, barbecue and outdoor kitchen. Swings hang just outside each room. An invitation to play, and a reminder to unplug.

The colour palette is a noticeable departure, too. Layers of greens and blues in gradient tones flow through the suites. There are twelve rooms in total, each awash in vibrant colours and playful artwork.

Kitchens are stocked with plates, cutlery and Nespresso coffee makers. A fridge and oven give the space substance.

It’s also entirely custom. The furniture, paint and tile all reflect one another, creating a cocooning effect that feels comforting and comfortable. Custom colour schemes are applied to furnishings, which match curtains that match pillows. Nightstands, beds and counters are painted to continue this effect.

It feels nostalgic, yet modern. Kitchenettes feature everything necessary to whip up a meal, and guests are encouraged to use the outdoor barbecue space. It feels like home. Do not forget the marshmallows.
