Okay, for some of us, every week is Negroni week but this week is special. From Sept 14 to Sept 20 we not only celebrate one of our favourite cocktails, but we raise our glasses and hit social media to raise funds to support Bartenders and the Hospitality Industry in Canada just by making a cocktail, sharing a photo on Instagram with the hashtag #negroniweekca2020

Campari, Italy’s iconic red apéritif, and Imbibe Magazine have partnered together for the 8 years to lead spearhead Negroni Week, an international charity initiative which celebrates the Negroni Cocktail. The Canadian campaign will work like this:

Every Instagram hashtag of #negroniweekca2020 will result in a $1 donation to the Bartenders Benevolent Fund, a Canadian charity born out of the response to the pandemic to help support bartenders who are having a rough time weathering the storm as the bar business has been one of the most hard hit industries in the country. Donations started off at the beginning of September and will continue until the end of the month so you have plenty of opportunities to make yourselves Negronis and share them with the world, using the magic hashtag OR by purchasing a bottle of Campari as Campari Group is also donating $1 for each bottle purchased in Ontario as well as a number of other provinces.

If you want a little more human interaction and instruction, you can sign up for an upcoming Zoom MasterClass event by signing up here

At the end of each MasterClass they will be giving away a Negroni kit to randomly selected attendee. Classes are pay what you can with proceeds also going towards the Bartender Benevolent Fund so there is no reason to skip it. I participated in a class this week with my kid and we had a great time, learned a lot about the history of one of our favourite tipples.
