Gift giving is a bizarre custom, once it was a meaningful hand-made gift, now, a hundred years later, we’re digitally sending gift cards and not even meeting IRL to hand them over. That decline seemingly happened overnight, and while we can all get behind a juicy GC for our fave shop, there’s a better custom that we enjoy over the holidays- a simple toast, sharing space with our friends and family, and looking at each other in eye, and not through a screen. Truly, a cheers is the gift that unites, tipples are top in our books, with booze or not, it’s always about being in the moment, with the ones you love. And, sometimes booze too.
We’ve gathered our favourite finds, new and old, for celebrating this season.
Wayne Gretzky Cask 99- 2018
She shoots, she scores! Sure, he’s got dangles for days, but don’t box him in for just his beers. Wayne knows a thing or two about wines (and whisky’s too) and we love his whisky finished Cask 99 aged red wine. The 100% Canadian blend is a biggie with bold ripe berry notes and pairs beautifully with charcuterie plates and strong cheeses. Give as a gift, or stock for your hosting duties. $19.95

In this modern day world, don’t be the stuck in stone age, offer something else to sip, and I’m not talking a lame Cran + Soda. Seedlip’s line of bitters and bases offer a trendy approach to the dreaded ‘mocktail’ term. Add soda, juice and fresh garnishes for a festive drink that won’t leave anyone out of a cheers.
Walter Caesar Mix
Christmas wouldn’t be the same without a holiday Caesar, and Walter knows how to do it right, with no icky artificial flavours or colours, the mix is a perfect base for a spicy Caesar, and in true holiday spirit, can be fashioned with top notch garnishes like lobster tails and candied bacon. And $1 CAD from every bottle of the new Holiday Caesar Mix purchased will be donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada with a focus on mentoring programs for youth, so you can toast to your own philanthropy too!
