Emily Catalano is a comedian/filmmaker from San Francisco who is best known for her sharp joke writing and dead pan delivery. She’s coming to Toronto for the first time. For one night only, she’ll deliver the laughs at the Comedy Bar Danforth on February 23rd with two shows. And we have a giveaway!

In 2019, Emily was selected as one of Timeout LA’s Comics to Watch. She is a regular at The Punchline and Cobbs Comedy Club, was a featured performer at Out of Bounds Comedy Festival in Austin, TX and selected as an Audible New Voice at SF Sketchfest. She regularly opens for Pete Holmes, and performs alongside Sarah Silverman, Tig Notaro, Judd Apatow, and Patton Oswalt at the Largo Theater in Los Angeles.

In 2019, she also made her late-night stand up debut on CONAN and this year her stand-up was featured on The Drew Barrymore Show. She just recorded her first album at the San Francisco Punchline with Blonde Medicine Records, with three sold out shows, and is currently developing a series with Irene Tu and Chelsea Handler Productions.

We had the chance to chat with Emily ahead of her visit to our city!

This will be your first time performing in Toronto! What are you looking forward to most?

Emily: Yeah, it’s my first time in The Big-T. Do people call it “The Big-T?” The thing I’m looking forward to the most is drinking the water. I know so many incredibly talented and funny comedians that have come out of Toronto, and I can’t help but think there’s something special in the water.

Do you anticipate a difference in Canadian audiences v.s. U.S. and other international comedy crowds?

Emily: Haven’t really thought about it until reading this question. Umm, I guess Canadian audiences will have more robust, heartier laughs because they are healthier because they have healthcare?

What is a goal in comedy that you have yet to accomplish?

Emily: I feel very lucky to be able to travel and do comedy as a job. So my main goal is just to be able to keep doing this. But you’ve got me thinking maybe I should have more goals in comedy. I’ll add “come up with comedy goals” to my to-do list, right after “start a to-do list.”

We are excited to do a contest for two tickets to your show! (+ Pizza!) Why do you feel your show makes for a great date experience?

Emily: The show is like a litmus test for compatibility. If your date laughs at my jokes, they’re probably pretty cool and you should keep dating them. Also, how do I get in on this free pizza? Nobody has offered me a pizza of any kind yet. So, someone will get to see my show AND get a pizza? What a deal!

Emily Catalano will be on stage at the Comedy Bar Danforth on Saturday, February 23 with two shows. For more information and tickets visit www.comedybar.ca
