So, I know, I know…we don’t have to do anything for Valentine’s Day. It is a pandemic after all. Okay, maybe grab a bottle of Prosecco and whip up a nice dinner to enjoy by candlelight? Don’t forget dessert. No need to panic. What day is it now anyway?

I’ve been ordering delicious and fresh meal kits and grocery items through GoodFood for about a year now. It’s not secret that I’m a fan of meal kits for a while – I’ve tried several of them. But when my friend Tiana mentioned that the GoodFood recipes were more interesting  and has more variety than others I decided to give it a try. She was right. We haven’t turned back.

The scallops were super plump and gorgeous!

For my food loving family, there are several reasons why we’ve continued to order through them. First and foremost, we love variety in our meals and I get tired trying to plan out every meal. Honestly, when I think about preparing 14 meals every week for the past year, I freeze. At least with the meal kits I can grab a break a few times a week and not have to think about what to make next. Convenience of not wasting any ingredients. Interesting selection of meals and plans. No commitment of having to order exactly 3 meals or more each week on my current plan – I sway between 2 to 3 each week but add on a few reheat items when I just want to DO NOTHING and simply pop into the oven. Anyone in the family can follow the instructions and cook. By the way, their groceries are great and prepared foods are great — try the quiches and the duck pie! Oh, and they have Montreal style bagels that I’ve doubled up in my order over the past month. There are tons of delicious items to add to your delivery. Cold pressed juices have been a staple in my weekly order during the winter months when it’s not as easy to venture out and get fresh fruits into our daily needs. Frozen cookie dough is a perfect treat to pop into your oven in a moment’s notice. Sheet pan meals are all the rage — they have those too!

Valentine’s Day is mere days away and I just learned that GoodFood has cupid working on overdrive for those who have suddenly switched to panic mode. Specially curated gourmet meal kits are ready in a flash to be delivered same day or within 24 hours to specific postal codes in Toronto! Great for those of us who are still wary of venturing into the grocery store or wondering if it’s too late to place take out orders for the busy weekend ahead.  If Valentine’s is more of a family affair and kids are involved, then you can order what you need to feed all of you!

What’s on the menu we had? Seared Scallops over Spaghetti alla Chitarra with Brown Butter, Burst Cherry Tomatoes & Fresh Mozzarella. We really enjoyed this meal kit as it also came with a side arugula salad. But you can order anything currently on the menu and it changes often! There is a great selection of vegetarian options and Clean 15 options as well. The Roasted Romanesco & Beets over Midnight Rice with Creamy Miso Vinaigrette & Furikake Crunch is just an example.

Blistered tomatoes in brown butter & garlic are colourful flavour explosions!

Searing the scallops is really easy! It only takes about 2 minutes on each side to cook on the stove top. We’ve also skewered and grilled scallops on the BBQ in past recipes.

You can even add on delicious sweets like Cocoa-Dusted Truffles ($5.99/200g) or Champs-Elysées Macarons ($9.99/6 macarons) all made in Canada.
