SonyaWinter has arrived with our first blanket of snow. That had me rushing to the coat closet and pulling out every coat I have in my possession. I admit to having a bit of an obsession with coats. It may be because our winters are long, cold and we plunge into darkness for months. But it doesn’t mean we have to always resort to our go-to black puffy coats. The options are a plenty — maybe it’s the whole ‘Emily in Paris’ effect that has me drawn more to colours and stylish offerings this season? Maybe it’s the desire to be hugged with happy, cheery colours. Regardless, a good statement coat is unforgettable — even if you’re like me and wear head-to-toe black underneath all season long. Here are some styles I’m lusting over this season.

Uniqlo x Jil Sander recently unveiled the latest collaboration under the +J label, the collection is stunning. Intentionally oversized with precision in details. This long coat Cashmere Blend Wrap Coat ($499) in dark brown is rich and elegant. A timeless piece that will remain a favourite for years to come. 
The North Face warms our hearts with this line of sustainably-conscious gear. The company has earned the “Exploration Without Compromise badge. That is, apparel, equipment, and accessories must be made with 75% or greater recycled, regenerative and/or responsibly-sourced renewable materials by weight. The stand out colour and style of this Nuptse Short Jacket in Brick House Red ($334.99)is one we love.

We’re seeing a lot of green shades carry through from the fall. Shades of optimism and a refresh of sorts. NOIZE is a Montreal-based company that really caught our attention a few years ago. The flattering styles and cuts suit a range of sizes. Bonus…they are vegan! Here we crush hard on the Sloane Long Vegan Wool Coat ($290) 
Stop the presses! When we first laid eyes on the Banana Republic x Harbison collection we swooned. The warm colours and colour blocking gives us Twiggy feels but modern day styling. This Italian Wool & Cashmere Colour Block Robe Coat ($750) will not only keep you warm but will turn heads everywhere. 
Okay, we still love our puffer coats but we love this one by Soia x Kyo for it’s mid-length for running errands (and keeping our bums covered). We also love the oversized hood to help us brave the blistering winds. Kaya in Chestnut is made with sustainable materials and is a straight fit. ($625)
