Nothing screams “winter has arrived” like dry skin. No matter how many layers of moisturizer I lather on, the telltale signs of dry air and brutal winds never seem to lessen. Rather than bemoan my itchy skin, I take matters into my own hands and spend a day (or many days to be honest) at the spa. Mud wraps, eucalyptus steam rooms, body scrubs and face masks. I do them all.
Below is a smattering of Toronto Spas our team has experienced and where you can escape winter, if only for a few hours.
I am a fan girl of this therapeutic water circuit. Starting in a 98 degree dead sea salt pool, you spend the next 35-40 minutes alternating between warmth and cold-water plunges. While the health benefits are many, I love the way my skin feels after spending an evening here. There are spa services available to be enjoyed after your water experience. This is a woman’s only facility and clothing/bathing suits are optional. Two locations, downtown and Leslieville. ~Heather
I have nothing against co-ed spas, but sometimes I just want a female-only environment where I can relax without thinking about my jiggly bits. Whether you are looking for manicures/pedicures, massages, facials or an afternoon poolside, Sweetgrass Spa has the service to make your skin feel refreshed and revitalized. Located in Corktown.~Heather
A few years ago I was treated to a day at the Four Seasons Spa. Every detail at this urban oasis screams luxury. Typical spa services are offered, including yoga, make-up and hair services, I highly recommend splurging on the Exotic Moroccan Oil Ritual. This 2.5 hour (re)treat will leave you feeling refreshed and winter-battle ready.Located in Yorkville. ~Heather
Hard to believe this multi-story day spa in the heart of Toronto has been around 35 years. Set in a historical building just blocks from the Eaton Centre, it’s a true urban oasis. It’s no surprise that it’s a destination spa not just for locals but tourists alike. Sure you can get your manis and pedis, facials and massages but there are a few interesting treatments worth exploring like the Li’Tya Body Ritual based on Australian Aboriginal rituals. According to the description it will leave you “laughing with joy.” ~Sonya
While not in Toronto, Ste. Anne’s Spa can be enjoyed as a day or overnight trip. Located only 1.5 hours outside of the GTA, this getaway is heavenly and offers spa services aimed at diminishing winter’s dark side. Therapeutic waters, wellness classes and delicious meals are all included in your price. Located in Grafton, Ontario. ~Heather
If you are feeling a little adventurous, I highly recommend the Southwestern Bathhouse. Stepped in a Russian bathhouse tradition, this hidden gem has a banya, a dry Finnish sauna and a Turkish Haman. Robes, slippers, and teas are provided. Be sure to linger after your relaxation for some authentic Russian cuisine. Located in Mississauga. ~Heather
This is truly a hidden gem. Tucked away from leering eyes you would never think anyone else is here but you. But behind closed doors and hallways it wouldn’t be uncommon to find some of the city’s socialites and a-list celebrities here. Why? It’s very discreet and the product line they use here is Swiss line Valmont – a luxurious brand dedicated to health and wellness that’s internationally known. It’s a beautiful line that I haven’t found in any other spas in the city~ Sonya
This luxury hotel in the heart of Toronto is truly an escape from the moment you step off the elevator at spa level. The peaceful surroundings will have you forget you’re in a big city. Try the Hammam treatment where they slough away dead skin and impurities leaving you with a fresh glow. Then get cozy in the quiet lounge as you sip on mint tea and nibble on some delights. Don’t be surprised if you blissfully fall asleep here. I sure have ~ Sonya
H20 Float Spa (several locations)
Step into your own private room and let yourself go in this floating chamber to help free your mind. Experience weightlessness either in a open concept tub or pod. The pod makes you feel like you’re stepping into a space vessel. Lights are dimmed and you can choose the hue or go completely in the dark. Float in warm water that is filled with over 1000 pounds of Epsom Salt. Great for relaxation and to clear your mind. ~Sonya
