Summer humidity and heat teamed with racing in and out of air-conditioned spaces can wreak havoc on our skin. Some of us have experiencing clogged and congested skin outbreaks and enlarged pores. Keeping on top of our skincare game can help keep our skin fresh and healthy! Starting with our face cleansers. Here are our favourites…
Victoria Radford’s CLEAN Vitamin C Active Clay Gel ($37 CDN):
This cleanser has many great ingredients that I love. I have sensitive skin that produces excess oil so I’m prone to breakouts and have enlarged pores. This is pH balanced and includes glycolic acid to gently help remove impurities from the skin as well as the excess surface oils. For a smoother texture this cleanser has mild resurfacing ingredients as well as antioxidants. The clay is actually Canadian Glacier Clay that’s great for detoxifying the skin to replenish and protect the skin. Activated Charcoal helps to draw out impurities. Vitamin C gives the skin a brighter appearance and helps calm redness on my sensitive skin. Also includes Green Tea Extract and Vitamin E. The bottle includes a pump. I find I only need two pumps for cleansing (morning and at night) as I massage it onto my damp face, then rinse off with warm-cool water. ~ Sonya

Boscia Cryosea™ Firming Icy-Cold Cleanser ($48)
I love the way this cleanser perks my skin up, especially during the hot summer months. Its patented Cryosea blend of red algae, menthol, sea kelp extract, sodium hyaluronate and seawater-feel like a cool breeze on my skin. This cleanser leaves my skin feeling really tingly and refreshed and it does help to keep my more mature skin plump and really smooth. I also hate cleansers that leave any sort of residue and this one rinses off easily, leaving my face feeling squeaky clean. The AHAs gently resurface the skin so I can use them daily. Coming in a bottle with a pump means I don’t have to fiddle with lids or caps when I am half asleep, also a plus. ~ Carole

Shiseido Deep Cleansing Foam ($48)
A powerful foaming cleanser without the chemical feel. I am obsessed with the scent and the lightweight bouncy bubbles that banish blackheads and bring balance to sun-weathered skin. While it goes the distance and disrupts oil and pollution, my skin never feels dehydrated, even if I double up and go for round two. While it’s on the pricier side it’s a quality product, you only need a small dime-sized amount to get makeup, dirt and all impurities off. It also has a lovely delicate scent. ~ Libby

Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Cleanser ($55)
We are blessed with four seasons here in Canada and the bitter winds and deep freezing temperatures are not just bone-chilling but really play a number on my exposed skin. Last winter I tried this cleanser that delivered a gentle clean and helped to replenish moisture loss while repair dry surfaces. Phytoactive ingredients helped as a healthy barrier resulting in a brighter skin tone. A little goes a long way here. ~ Sonya

Alumier SensiCalm Cleanser ($49)
If you have sensitive skin normal (or even after medispa treatments) this line is fantastic. The smooth, hydrating cleanser delicately removes impurities and excess oil while calming skin. It also includes Yucca root extract for a gentle natural cleanser. Niacinamide, ceramides, vitamin E and sunflower seed oil moisturize, leaving skin smooth, soft and intensely hydrated. I also appreciate that if I have any questions about the line I can call upon skincare experts to walk me through current needs ~ Sonya
