If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at stand up comedy, script writing, or improv, here is a great way to learn from those in the industry and to see if you’ve got what it takes!
With over 45 years combined teaching experience founders Christel Bartelse, Anne Fenn, and Melody Johnson have observed that some of the students who identify as female feel more comfortable in an all-female environment. They explain because comedy involves a fair amount of risk-taking and “putting yourself out there”, it can be intimidating especially in the initial creation/hatching phase.
They’ve coined the term “Henergy” that describes that incomparable feeling you get when you’re hanging out with a group of women and having a really great time. That’s what their mission is when people experience Comedy Coop as they learn, create and laugh.
There’s never been a better time for women in comedy – even for those who are just comedy curious. And yeh they tell us, you’ll want to sign up before the governor of Texas makes it illegal. lol
There are a few great one-off beginner classes (currently online) — for us curious but non-committal-until-I-can-try-it-for-myself-types. I’m in!
Classes are taught by some of the industry’s best (we spotted Martha Chaves, Robin Duke and Lisa Merchant). Classes offered — Intro to Sitcom Writing, Intro to Improv, Physical Comedy: Finding your Fool, Set-up and Punchline: Building Blocks of Stand-up.
What a fun way to learn something new, challenge yourself and get out of your comfort zone! Who’s in?
