We were joking around about photos from our childhood. My sister and I had matching red and white checked dresses mom made. Our hair styles were all bangs curled down and shoulder length or in pigtails. We would head into the department store studios where the photographer would pose us for our family portrait. We worked our toothy smiles in with the faux outdoor muted out backdrops of forests or sometimes sponge painted to make them look timeless. Mom loved them and dad just went along to keep her happy. We had to laugh when we learned there’s a new photo experience happening right here in Toronto. And yep, it’s perfectly awkward as we like it. The Awkward Family Photo Studio is here and hey, may just be the best Father’s Day family gift dad didn’t know he wanted!

Founded by childhood friends Mike and Doug in 2009, Awkward Family Photos has become beloved internet sensation –yes, you can do it for Gran, and the Gram! They’ve been inviting people worldwide to share their most uncomfortable family photo moments. Now , with the launch of  the pop-up studio in Toronto, one of the top cities to submit their very own photos throughout the years, guests have the opportunity to create their awkwardness in this fun and entertaining environment.

Offering one-of-a-kind experience this photo studio invites families, friends and even pets to capture all the cringe-worthy fun moments. Vintage backdrops are used and there are also an array of awkward props and “expert posing guides” to help if needed.

Need some inspo?

Search up the most popular styles of the decade. The 1980s are fun with the New Wave movement — think neon, Flock of Seagulls. And pop icons like Madonna, with lace cut out gloves and teased out hair. Oooh, remember the 20 minute workout with leg warmers? Or how about the 2000’s  with velour tracksuits – anyone remember Juicy Couture? Was it that long ago?

Time slots for the photo sessions are now open. Tickets options include standard packages for $39 priced per person in the photo (with discounts for children under 12) and V.A.P. packages (Very Awkward Person), both of which include a 15-minute studio session and digital photos. The V.A.P. package also features printed photos mad signed AFP book and exclusive event access. You can get more information on the sessions and book your session HERE.

And because we LOVE this idea so much, the Awkward Family Photo Studio is reluctantly (not really, they were all in!) offering one of our reader a chance to win a Photo Session !

You can gift a family photo session with dad or use it for yourselves. Bring the kids, the grandkids, your pup or pet chinchilla too. You can bring up to 8 people. Just keep it cheesy, okay? It’s a “gouda” time! We know, we’re “un-brie-lievable”. LOL
