Diego Marcon: The Bubble Boy: Art Gallery of Ontario, opening June 3
Making his Canadian debut at the AGO, Diego Marcon’s cinematic vision draws on Hollywood musicals, horror films, melodrama, and slapstick, to present films both unsettling and tender. Incorporating CGI, prosthetics, and robotics, Marcon achieves an uncanny quality in his films: images that feel artificial, yet strangely alive. Then, at the centre of this installation is Marcon’s newest work, Krapfen (2025).
Set in a bedroom, the film describes a child tormented by four characters — a pair of gloves, a foulard, a pair of trousers, and a pullover — who insist that the child should eat an apricot jam krapfen (or German doughnut). Part musical, part neurotic carousel, the objects hector the child as they swirl around, in a choreographed dance, set to music composed by Federico Chiari.

Paranormal Activity: (Canadian Premiere) CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre (244 Victoria Street) June 9 to July 5
James and Lou move from Chicago to London to escape their past, but they soon discover that places aren’t haunted, people are…Inspired by the iconic, terrifying film series, Paranormal Activity is a new story live on stage.
Blurring the line between cinema and live theatre, Paranormal Activity has been hailed as a ‘relentlessly frightening – arm-clutchingly, stranger-embracingly so’ (Metro) theatrical experience — leaving audiences jumping out of their seats and questioning what’s lurking in the dark long after the curtain falls.
Paranormal Activity reimagines the modern ghost story with an unsettling intimacy only theatre can provide. Immersing audiences in an atmosphere of creeping dread, unseen forces, and psychological tension, Levi Holloway’s script offers a bold reinterpretation of the original, blending domestic horror with mind-bending theatricality. Felix Barrett, known for breaking boundaries between audience and performer, brings his signature visionary style to the production. With innovative staging and chilling soundscapes, Paranormal Activity invites audiences to witness the inexplicable up close—and feel the fear in real time. Definitely a must see!
