Addressing our skincare and health concerns after giving birth is different from any other time in our lives. Things have changed and yes, while we all can say “it was all worth it” it doesn’t mean we’re thrilled about it.

There are treatments out there today to help pretty much any concern you want addressed and we strongly believe that it’s nobody else’s business but yours. We’ve always believed in educating ourselves and finding the right experts to guide us through particularly when it comes to our health.

So, when I asked my circle of mommy friends what their skincare and health concerns were, and what’s on their wishlist to take care of, there are several that keep coming up:

1. Stretch marks and muscle weakness

2. Tired looking eyes

3. “cloak of pregnancy” or mask of pregnancy

4. Hair loss

5. Hormonal acne and scarring

The “cloak of pregnancy” is one that I revisit often as some of you already know. It’s a common skin concern for many women. I’ve had success in treating the strange pigmentation on my face over the years but its often under the care of a dermatologist. Having said that, I was also told that I need to always, ALWAYS use sunscreen with a high SPF and that the pigmentation had a risk of returning if I wasn’t careful.

I’ve tried glycolic peels which were aggressive to help the situation but with a recent visit to Dr. Jennifer Pearlman at PearlMD Rejuvenation in Toronto, I’m about to try something called a Melanage Peel that I was told was very effective but even better in addressing my skin concerns in fewer visits. I’ll start there and will keep you posted. I’m also starting to notice that my eyes lids are starting to sag. I wondered about Botox which I thought would give me the lift to look more awake. Although, this clinic offers fillers and injectibles, I was surprised to learn that it may not be the best route for me. With my heavy eyelids there’s a likely hood of vision obstruction issues as I grow older which has happened within my family’s history.

I like that there are more options available now that I hadn’t even heard of. I’ll continue researching and about them and will get back to you shortly on whether or not I decide to move forward with the eye treatments.

There’s so much out there – skin resurfacing, contouring, getting that glow back, weight management… it goes on! But to be honest, like many of you, I haven’t had much time to really think about me. Everything is about the family (yes, including the dog).

If you’ve ever been curious about what is the right treatment for your needs, there’s an event coming up in Toronto with PearlMD (Yonge & St. Clair) where you can have your skin assessed and find out what’s right for you. There’s an opportunity to speak with experts, and even demo some of their services – but they aren’t just about beauty. This practice also offers a whole body approach with nutrition, exercise, and overall wellness.  The GET GORGEOUS event is happening on May 29th at PearlMD Rejuvenation (1650 Yonge Street). I will be there!

Bring your friends to the Open House from 4pm to 6pm, for fashion, food, and swag bags! You can find out more on their Facebook Page.
