The best deals of the year usually happen on Black Friday and right through to Cyber Monday. What started out as a U.S. Thanksgiving Day weekend tradition has now spilled over to Canada. It’s considered to be the busiest shopping day of the year.
Those who are organized get to take advantage of some great deals. And yes, there are great deals to be had! But it can be pretty stressful.
According to a recent survey commissioned by Amazon, nearly four out of five international adults (78%) admit that they experience stress during the holiday season. Holiday shopping crowds (51%) and trying to decide what gifts to buy (49%) also topped the list of stressors, reported globally.
Our shopping tips for the holiday season:
- Make your list and have some idea of what you’d like to get for each person on your list. We all do this right?
- Stick close to your budget. You can get pretty creative even if your wallet isn’t bursting. Often artisan goods offer up meaningful and cost effective gifting ideas.
- Be open to find alternatives to what you originally wanted to purchase. Sometimes the hottest items of the season (think latest toys, sneakers) will have you waiting in lines. Is it worth your time? That’s up to you.
- Be wary of return and exchange policies. The deals may be really awesome BUT make sure you are aware of timing. We were caught off guard last year when grandma purchased her Xmas gifts for the kids at the end of November and we couldn’t return or exchange them (wrong size) after Christmas because it was past the allowed time.
- Keep all your receipts and ask for gift receipts!
If you’re after electronics, Black Friday weekend is the best time to get what you desire. Think video games, consoles, tablets, laptops, TVs, etc.
We’ve been keeping an eye on some companies that are already teasing out what to expect. We’ll keep this post updated as we lead up to the date so check back often! We’ve also linked you directly to their sites.
