We’re not sure why but Father’s Day always seems to catch us off-guard. Maybe it’s the time of year when kids are wrapping up the school year and we’re making summer plans. Maybe it’s because the day isn’t pushed as much as Mother’s Day in the stores? Well, this year, we’re on top of it! Here are some of our editorial teams favourite ideas for this coming Father’s Day!

Dad is in training mode for Tough Mudder in Whistler or Toronto this year or any other endurance and physical challenge sport? He needs rugged wear and it happens that Merrell is the official footwear sponsor this year. Dad needs a versatile shoe to get him through the varying terrain. The ALL OUT CRUSH 2 will offer amazing grip as well as drainage to go the distance.

Online shopping has become much easier to get things done and we’ve spotted a great deal on Ray-Ban sunglasses on eBay Canada’s site. Beginning May 31, we’ve spotted many deals including the Ray-Ban Gatsby sunglasses available for $69.99 (regular retail $250) and other styles that are coveted. Check out ebay.ca/summertimesteals

We’ve always loved DIY and Lee Valley offers many hands-on workshops to create something with and/or for Dad. Saddlestitching, gardening, and wood turning, bird-house making, and more. Check locations for what’s offered give something to dad that’s made by hand.

Affordable and high quality Uniqlo’s UT and SPRZNY collectible t-shirts are sought after by all the cool dads. From Star Wars and Disney to Andy Warhol, Basquiat, Kaws, and more these official collaborations often sell out quickly. Currently we are crushing hard on the latest UT Takashi Murakami x Doraemon collab that seems to sell out as soon as it hits the shelves.  But don’t worry, they replenish as quickly as they can.

Dads deserve luxurious pampering too! We love L’Occitane from France for their great gift sets. The L’Occitane Cedrat Collection is fresh, citrusy and ideal for summer. It’s a perfect balance of bold and energizing with notes of cedrat fruit, with base notes of cedar and cashmere wood.

The BBQ seems to be Dad’s favourite summer way of cooking so it’s fitting to update his BBQ cookbook collection (he has one, right?). We love How to Grill Everything: Simple Recipes For Great Flame-Cooked Food (April 2018) by Mark Bittman. Available through Indigo.

If dad loves his techy gadgets, this Weber iGrill BBQ thermometer takes the guess work out of the ideal and safety of grilled meats. Paired via Bluetooth to his mobile device, dad definitely will be the king of the grill. Available at Lowe’s Canada.

If dad always says “don’t get me anything” but you still want to, how about an experience? We all love a good laugh so we think tickets to JFL42 is the perfect gift idea. The seventh annual JFL42 Festival, in association with SiriusXM is returning this fall from September 20 to 29 in Toronto. This year’s line up features Seth Myers, Jo Koy, Wanda Sykes, Ken Jeong, Hannibal Buress, Anthony Jeselnik, Chris D’Elia and many more. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 8th at 10 am.
