Sleep goes hand-in-hand with health and quality of life. That’s no secret based on all research that’s out there. Sleep is essential for the body and yes, the skin, to recuperate and repair. It makes sense, right? And with sleep, routine is ideal. But if you were a bit off schedule this week because of Daylight’s Savings Time, you’re not alone. I’m the same but some of us not only feel exhausted but look it too. When the buzz began about Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon Transformative Night Gel-Cream, I took notice. The name itself sounded inviting!
WHAT IS IT?
According to their site, its “revitalizing treatment gel-cream transforms skin overnight by optimizing nighttime skin recovery. Motion-activated essential oils work all night to promote deep, restful sleep for healthier-looking skin by morning.” The product claim to visibly increase radiance by morning, reduce signs of skin fatigue restoring vitality and hydration.
A look at the label to find the main ingredients: Tamarind Seed Extract (helps to promote skin’s natural hydration process), French Lavender Essential Oil with Sandalwood and Patchouli (for a restful sleep), Persian Silk Tree Extract (to reduces signs of skin fatigue and restores vitality), and Wu-Zhu-Yu Extract (to provides visibly radiant skin by morning).
HOW TO USE IT?
The packaging is nothing like I’ve seen before. The circular pump is easy to use providing enough per pump for each section of your face. I used 4 pumps overall. It’s meant to be used as the last step in your night time skin care regime. I have sensitive and all-over-the-place kind of skin and now that the season is slowly transitioning to spring I find the skin on my face not as dry but I do noticed that my skin absorbs the gel very quickly leaving a matte finish. I like that.
I’m very sensitive to smells. That is, if it doesn’t smell good then I’m not likely to continue using something. But this smells so peaceful. No surprise with the French Lavender, right? This essential oil’s calming properties is what you’ll find in this product and it lasted me until morning.
SO, WHAT DOES IT DO?
French Lavender essential oil is a proven natural scent that helps lull you to sleep. Having tried this product for over a week now, I can tell you that when I’ve gone to sleep…I’ve been sleeping straight through till the morning. It’s probably the most restful I’ve had in a long time. In fact, that night we had to change the clocks? Yeah, I slept 12 hours solid. Bliss! And even nights where I stayed up late and could only afford myself 4 hours of sleep, I slept like a rock.
Now what about the skin care elements? For the past week, I would jump out of bed each morning to examine my face. The matte finish remained and my skin definitely appears smoother and not as dull. I’m also use to my skin having redness and brown spots (an issue I’ve had for years due to sun damage) that makes my skin appear uneven and the only way I can keep them at bay, is to maintain a skin regime that targets sun spots. By the way, you can use this product over your targeted treatment serums. But I chose just to use this without any other products. In a week, it seems the gel-cream has calmed that down towards a more even skin tone. Not sure it was in the claims but that was pretty noticeable for me. Also, I’m not a really much of a cosmetics person, I’m a natural beauty. Just Kidding! I really don’t like the feel of a lot of makeup and only use it when necessary with the exception of a daily BB cream that is a moisturizer/sunscreen. So, a more even skin tone is without all the makeup steps is ideal for me.
The only wish I have for this product is to be able to see inside the container. The packaging is beautiful but I’m dreading that I’ll run out sooner than I can order it. This is definitely going on my repeat list.
