It’s a different world out there when it comes to dating and we’ve all heard stories. When it comes to online dating we could write an entire blog based on the stories we’ve heard. But not not all of it is bad. We’ve had friends who have met people online and are in committed relationships. So, for this month of love, we’ve tapped into our go-to resource, celebrity matchmaker and dating coach Carmelia Ray.   You may be familiar with her as she’s been on numerous media outlets giving seriously useful advice on dating. She’s been interviewed in  Variety magazine, OK! magazine, Elle, Global News, The Marilyn Dennis Show, COSMO, and many others. We’re so lucky to have access to her!

Over the past 25 years, she’s witness an exciting evolution of dating. In the early 90’s, Carmelia reminds us of how singles met traditionally at church, bars, work friends, or feeling the fruit at the grocery store. We’ve heard about those cucumber stories!

But times are changing. Carmelia tells us that it’s not uncommon to meet someone through a DM on Instagram, poke on Facebook, a cleverly crafted tweet on Twitter or what she calls a “power move” on dating apps like “The League.” “Times have certainly changed over the last two decades, and singles have had a difficult time adjusting to modern-day dating platforms in order to win at the game of love,” says Carmelia. “Being successful in today’s highly competitive dating market requires you to have the right tools.”

To help us navigate through the clutter of choosing the best dating apps, Carmelia gives us her top recommendations that she gives her private clients. Along with some essential dating tools you’ll need to stand out from the masses dating online.

THE LEAGUE: dating app truly measure up to its name – a dating app allowing single men/women to date people in their league. The app vets all prospective daters according to education, occupation, social and physical status. There are quite a few careful considerations their letters are looking for in an ideal “League” candidate. For starters, even if you meet the educational and occupational standards, according to Meredith Davis, head of PR and community at The League, daters must have photos which are visually appealing. There’s actually a waiting list to get in The League in all cities they’ve ever launched. The Toronto market opened it’s doors in the summer of 2017. The profiles of the mens in The League are full of essential details most women want to know. You’ll know the University he attended, the degree he earned, his profession and company information, age, height, ethnicity and all of the typical must-have details for you to quickly assess if this guy is future husband material.

To register for The League, you can sign in using your LinkedIn profile or your Facebook profile. The League has an exclusive registration process with LinkedIn making their dating app highly desirable for highly educated, high achieving men and women. A brilliant feature The League founder Amanda Bradford and her team implemented is the following – your dating profile is automatically blocked from 1st-degree authentication from LinkedIn and booked from Facebook Friends so your information and single status remains private amongst your co-workers and friends. The League focuses on recommending quality introduction by carefully choosing only five new profiles per day for you to consider.

BUMBLE: I love the story of how Bumble’s CEO Whiteny Wolfe left Tindr to compete, head to head with her former partner and created an app where women make the first move. Bumble is the very first “female first” dating app which launched in 2014. according to a recent article on Business Insider, Forbes reported that, as of February, Bumble had garnered 12.5 million registered users, who spend an average o 100 minutes a day on the app.” Bumble is the ideal app for women who are tired of being inundated with messages from undesirable men, and guys who are addicted to swiping right just to see who likes them back. Bumble’s philosophy of women choosing who to communicate with empowers women to make smarter  choices. You avoid feeling objectified the way you do on other dating apps. Bubble has recently launched Bumble Bizz and Bumble BFF to expand on the user’s dating experience and help them connect with new friends an business opportunities.
