I am not going to lie, I love receiving gifts on February 14th. And as much as I say, Valentine’s Day is little more than a commercial declaration of love orchestrated by big box stores, I do love waking up and seeing what my hubby picked out for me.
One year I got a sailor’s knife. That was our first year of dating. To him the gift said “I love you so much, I want to share sailing with you.” To me? Well it shouted “time to buck up and do more work on the boat”. Fail. Then there was the not-so-sexy-more-trampy lingerie he got me. No need to relive that year.
Many years have passed since those days and I am hoping he has upped his V-Day Game. But in case he hasn’t, below is a list put together by all of us at Auburn Lane.
DANGLES FOR DAYS:
The Amalfi Necklace, with your initials engraved, is an ever-lasting declaration of love. Citrus Silver, a Canadian company, masterfully combines modern pieces with personal messages.
Cheeky and fun, these adorable XO earrings would be a fun way to sneak some love into the everyday. Made by Muizee and available through the One of a Kind shop.
HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS:
The subtly soft and romantic woven wall hanging is super swoon worthy. It’s beauty lies in it’s weaving nature, a metaphor for a love filled life and marriage. The (online) One of A Kind Show is taking orders for this beauty by Bobbie Made.
We typically spend our Valentine’s Day at home, celebrating as a family, cause we’re dorky and sentimental like that, and in all honesty, it’s a fun meal with kids, one in which they automatically participate in cooking! We’ve been hosting another family for fondue fun, and a second pot would be a hot addition! This model from All-Clad boasts a ceramic insert for streamlining cheese and meat production. Is there anything sexier?
There’s something beautiful about rituals that we love. We start our mornings enjoying our espresso and this stainless steel kit reminds of artisanal work. Inspired by traditional African coffee ceremonies, the patterns of this limited edition tray made exclusively for Nespresso use old world techniques and the masterful art of guiloche. Accessories with the latest ergonomic glassware for entertaining everyday.
TIMING IS EVERYTHING:
There’s something romantic in a beautiful timepiece. RADO Diamaster “his and hers” watches are stylish for couples who celebrate their individuality as well as their foundation. You know they will last a lifetime. “Hers” includes 49 sparkly diamonds on a mother-of-pearl dial with rose gold coloured accents. “His” is a classic gentleman’s watch in a polished brown high-tech ceramic case and mono bloc construction pressed on titanium case back with a vintage style leather strap. Also this limited edition timepiece holds 25 jewels with an 80 hour power reserve.
The other watch we are eyeing is the Swatch “Hearty Love” special release for Valentine’s Day. This limited and numbered edition of 7654 pieces come beautifully wrapped in distinctive packaging. The watch is found inside round, white box covered in tiny red hearts.
Who doesn’t love flowers any time of the year? Heck, we’ll even get some ourselves for no reason but to cheer us up. To help eliminate rushing out, we love the simplicity of ordering online through TONIC BLOOMS. See exactly what you’ll be getting online. Modern fresh bouquets are delivered even same day if needed. But pay attention now to Vday presales to secure your bunch.
ONE FOR ME, ONE FOR ME:
One of the sweetest gifts for Valentine’s Day is a box of beautiful HEART SHAPED MACARONS from local bakery Butter Avenue. Voted as one of the Best Bakeries in Toronto by Toronto Life and other publications, these macarons are considered one of the best in the city. The annual Valentine’s offer sells out quickly with pre-orders available if you don’t want to take a chance. Different flavours available each each along side some fan favourites.
We love to pair our macarons with a bit of bubbly. La Marca Prosecco has got our taste buds sizzling with hints of apple, pear and lemon zest. Why not get a little frisky and serve it up as an Orange Blossom cocktail to accompany those marcarons?
Your Valentine doesn’t like flowers? You can always send bacon or doughnut bouquets through foodora. The on-demand delivery service has partnered with Bacon Nation (yes, bacon roses) and Fancy Franks (doughnuts with cinnamon hearts candies) this month for an unforgettable way to say “I Adough you” and you’re my “BAE-con”. Pre-orders will be taken February 12 and 13 through the participating partner pages on the foodora app. You can also order for pick up on February 14th (limited quantities).
Shake up the day of hearts with this “Vodka Is Always A Good Idea” Candy Bento Box from Sugarfina. This unique gift partners with Tito’s Handmade Vodka and includes limited edition Tito’s American Mule Bears, Tito’s Vodka Cordials (a rich, dark chocolate cordial filled with a sip of smooth Tito’s Vodka), and a mini mule mug for a sweet, and grown-up, treat. Several varieties available in the collection. Here’s one with “Martini Olives”.
AN AMERICAN IN PARIS (Princess of Wales Theatre, March 27 to April 29) is the new Tony Award winning musical about an American soldier and a mysterious French girl each yearning for a new beginning in the aftermath of war. More info at mirvish.com

GET A LITTLE CLOSER:
They say a scent carries many memories. It brings you back to a certain time or place. The latest fragrance line to launch (exclusive to Sephora) is The 7 Virtues created by Canadian entrepreneur and human rights activist Barb Stegemann. This new contemporary Peace perfume collection not only offers seven natural, organic and fair trade scents, but they help women globally. Each essential oil used in line is sourced from communities rebuilding after war or strife (Afghanistan, Haiti, Rwanda, The Middle East, India and Madagascar). Made with out phthalates, paragons or sulphates. They are also vegan, cruelty-free and only use organic sugar cane alcohol. This perfumer’s passion for helping farmers globally sparked international attention and led to the development of the award-winning documentary Perfume War. Her new line is part of Sephora’s Accelerate Program that is dedicated to building a community of innovative female founders in the beauty industry. We absolutely LOVE the packaging too!
We’ve ditched the concept of pretty bras & panties for only special occasions. French lingerie line Simone Perele has taught us that our foundation pieces can be beautiful for everyday as they should be. We don’t need an excuse or a celebration to wear the best.
As night time approaches, we can slip into sensuous sleepwear that wears like a dream. We love the lacy back and sexy cut-out on the Daphne chemise by Lusome. The best part? These beautiful designs are backed by science to deliver unparalleled moisture-management control. Meaning night sweats get wicked away. Sexy and Practical.
Pairing perfectly with the gift of beautiful lingerie, the Delicates Bag by Spencer Paige perfectly safeguards your newest lingerie. This discrete storage solution for your intimate apparel is lined with a silk-satin fabric and will protect your items and keep them effortlessly organized at home or throughout your travels.
